Movement Labs has officially launched its developer mainnet, marking a key milestone ahead of its public mainnet beta, which is set to go live in mid-February.
The initiative brings the Move Virtual Machine (MoveVM)—originally developed for Facebook’s Diem project—to Ethereum, enabling developers to build faster and more secure decentralized applications (dApps) on the world’s largest smart contract platform.
Bringing MoveVM to Ethereum
Despite Facebook shutting down Diem in 2022, MoveVM has thrived, being adopted by Sui and Aptos. Now, Movement Labs is integrating MoveVM with Ethereum, allowing developers to build, test, and optimize applications before the official mainnet launch.
This upgrade is expected to enhance Ethereum’s ecosystem, offering higher security and efficiency for DeFi applications and smart contracts.
Boosting DeFi and Security
With the launch of the developer mainnet, blockchain developers can now test financial applications before deployment, ensuring seamless functionality upon full release.
This is particularly crucial for DeFi protocols, which enable borrowing, lending, and trading without traditional banks. MoveVM’s security-focused architecture reduces risks such as smart contract vulnerabilities and hacks.
As the public mainnet beta approaches, Movement Labs is positioning itself at the forefront of Ethereum’s next evolution, paving the way for more secure and efficient blockchain applications.
