MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor has sparked discussions about Bitcoin adoption in France following his recent meeting with French Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Sarah Knafo. In a social media post, Saylor suggested that France “could use some Bitcoin,” highlighting the potential role of cryptocurrency in the nation’s financial landscape.

Knafo, a rising political figure known for her advocacy of digital innovation, described Saylor as a “brilliant entrepreneur” and revealed that their discussion centered on the future of Bitcoin and energy. This conversation aligns with Knafo’s prior remarks in the European Parliament endorsing the idea of nations holding Bitcoin as part of their strategic reserves, a concept gaining traction across Europe.

France has historically been a trailblazer in cryptocurrency regulation. It was among the first countries to introduce a legal framework for digital assets under the PACTE law, which established a regulated category for digital asset service providers. More recently, France became the first major EU economy to accept cryptocurrency company applications under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework.

The idea of national Bitcoin reserves, once considered fringe, is now entering mainstream discourse. In December, Knafo reiterated her support for the concept, citing discussions in the U.S. about creating a strategic Bitcoin reserve. Similar sentiments have been echoed by European leaders, including Germany’s former finance minister, Christian Lindner, who suggested that both Germany and the European Central Bank should explore diversifying reserves with Bitcoin.

Saylor has long been a vocal advocate for Bitcoin’s role in transforming global finance. His call for France to embrace Bitcoin underscores the growing interest among policymakers and industry leaders in integrating digital assets into national strategies. With influential voices like Saylor and Knafo championing Bitcoin, Europe’s approach to cryptocurrency could see significant evolution in the coming years.
