Cannes Mayor David Lisnard has announced an initiative to enable local businesses to accept cryptocurrency payments, aligning with the city’s preparations for the upcoming Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC).

This effort, revealed via LinkedIn, highlights Cannes’ focus on embracing digital currencies as part of its broader strategy to integrate Web3 technologies and support the local economy.

In anticipation of the 8th edition of EthCC, scheduled from June 30 to July 3, 2025, the city will host training sessions for merchants. These sessions, starting February 4 at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, will cover practical topics such as setting up crypto payment systems, as well as legal, tax, and accounting implications for businesses adopting cryptocurrency.

To further enhance the initiative, Cannes will introduce a “crypto-friendly” merchant map, designed to guide EthCC participants and other visitors to local businesses that accept digital payments.

EthCC 2025: A Key Event for Cannes
As Europe’s largest Ethereum-focused event, EthCC is expected to attract over 6,500 registered attendees, with total participation projected to exceed 10,000. Mayor Lisnard sees this initiative as an opportunity for local businesses to connect with a global audience and position Cannes as a hub for major technological events.

A Broader Vision
While some view Lisnard’s pro-crypto efforts as part of a potential strategy for the 2027 French presidential election, the mayor’s primary focus remains on strengthening local commerce and tourism. This initiative aligns with the growing global interest in blockchain and digital payment systems, further solidifying Cannes’ reputation as an innovative and forward-thinking city.
