A little over 70 days ago I discovered Hamster Kombat and its impressive growth at the time. This got me curious about it and especially how much one could potentially earn from the airdrop. Now that the HMSTR airdrop is here, it makes sense to do a recap of the game and earnings.
Hamster Kombat ecosystem
What stood out for Hamster Kombat was the simulation mechanism. Coins earned by tapping and various activities such as following socials or watching content on the HK official YouTube channel allowed users to earn tokens which they could then use to invest in various cards for the profit-per-hour (PPH) passive gains.
It was all so well organized and clearly thought out. This was perhaps the thing that attracted most of us to the game. On top of that, many users had high hopes that the more they upgraded their cards and raised their PPH, the more coins they would receive in the HMSTR airdrop.
How much HMSTR did I earn?
Hamster Kombat recently announced the results of the snapshot taken on 20 September. Based on my achievements and activity, I am eligible to receive 1852.57 HMSTR tokens during the airdrop. This was based on A 6.8 million PPH, over 1.5 billion in-game coins, almost all cards upgraded to at least level 15, A few YouTube videos watched and 97 keys collected. I also managed to collect over 10 skins.
Community backlash
It was rather disappointing when I first saw how many coins I had earned. Especially considering all the effort and time invested in the game. It turns out I was not the only one that was walking down the boulevard of disappointment.
Many players also expressed their disappointment with Hamster Kombat on X and other socials. Especially when it became apparent that influencers received more coins than others because of referrals. In other words, the team behind the project rewarded those who brought more traffic to the game rather than the players themselves. One guy made an entire post ranting about where the HK team went wrong.

Hamster Kombat launched its mini app early this year, but after one or two months, they really gained momentum and in the next three months attracted 350 million users.

Hamster Kombat players are set for more disappointment ahead?
There has been a lot of speculation about the HMSTR token value when it launches on exchanges. Some speculate that it will be around $0.65, in which case I could get at least $1,000 based on my current HMSTR holdings if I sell at that price. Others suggests that it will be between $0.003 and $0.009. In which case the tokens will be worth roughly $4 to $14.
Regardless of the trading price, many traders will likely be focused on selling to cash out. In other words, the token could be subject to a strong wave of sell pressure in the coming days, which will further dilute the price.
Hamster Kombat intends to run more seasons of the game in the future. The staking mechanism in order to earn APYs may encourage more people to hold in anticipation of more earnings in the future. However, it leaves more questions than answers. For example, how will the game maintain demand for HMSTR beyond those incentives? Will the token gain value in the long-term?

Hamster Kombat’s YouTube funnel
Hamster Kombat’s YouTube channel achieved impressive growth in a short time. Part of this is because it incentivized watching videos on its YouTube channels. This encouraged many to join, and as such, their content received millions of views.
YouTube ad revenue was thus in plenty, hence once could argue that this was an impressive and elaborate strategy to generate revenue through YouTube. According to a Nasdaq publication, HK generated over $5.2 million in ad revenue ever since its launch. No matter how you look at it, that was an impressive move.

Conclusion
It’s been an interesting time playing Hamster Kombat. Running an exchange, although virtual, and seeing it thrive was rewarding. Unfortunately, many had high hopes and expectations of being heavily rewarded, which has set them up for disappointment.
